I arrived slightly indifferent to the place and left as a raging Francophile. As you say, they’ve learned a few things about living life in the intervening centuries that we would do well to emulate. We returned to the U.S. just as Trump was on the verge of seizing power and the contrast in cultures could not have been more severe.

The French people we met were all aghast at the possibility that we’d be stupid enough to elect such a creature and it was so embarrassing to admit that we were capable of such incredible buffoonery.

Alas.
