ABC's Scandal.... I've tried to like, it, really, I have, but.... [View all]

It seems to get some critical acclaim, so I've tried to watch it... Not the least because I like that a black actress (Kerry Washington) is finally getting a starring role built around her and, heavens, what a great progressive she is.

But, while I admit that it is probably better than 90% of what we get from network tv, nowadays, I find both the show (and particularly Washington's performance) really disappointing. On the latter score, I've never really seen any of Washington's previous work as an actress, so I don't know if it is just the way the role is written or reflects something lacking in her acting abilities. But, she seems such a uni-dimensional, one-note character with expressions limited to forlorn doe-eyed to forlorn (but angry) doe-eyed.

She's such a good progressive, I don't want to say more, but heavens her acting capabilities seem to be lacking in this role. The premise of the show is not bad, considering how formulaic is network-produce drama, nowadays and it does touch on some Bush-era excesses, but I just find the whole thing---disappointing.

Thoughts?
