vote for the Dem likely to come in second in the governor's race to split the vote between Newsome and another Dem ... Villaraigosa, perhaps? The idea is that if there are no Republicans in the governor's race it may discourage some Republican voters from voting at all -- a blow to the congressional races of Republican incumbents David Valadao (CA-21), Jeff Denham (CA-10) and the loathesome Devin Nunes (CA-22).
