Voting for a political party, regardless of the person or issues involved, is not a proper exercise of civic responsibility. Bob Filner was a Democrat. He was also a criminal and a despot, and that was well known when he was a Cngressmen. He was elected mayor because too many people voted for him simply because he was a Democrat.

He was a monstrous embarrasment to the city of San Diego and had to be booted out of office by special election at great cost to the citizens. I am proud to say that I voted against him in the mayoral election because, while favoring Democrats, I pay attention to who they are and knew precisely who Bob Filner was.

Voting a straight party ticket is easy. It is also lazy and poor citizensship. Civic responsibility demands that one know who one is voting for.
