Following an eight-month investigation by his office, D.C. Attorney General Karl A. Racine
filed a lawsuit Tuesday against DoorDash, accusing Americas
largest food-delivery service of pocketing millions of dollars in workers tips and using them to cover labor costs.
The attorney generals office argues that DoorDashs former pay model the San Francisco-based
company announced in August that it would revamp the model violated several sections of the Consumer Protection Procedures Act, said Benjamin Wiseman, director of the Office of Consumer Protection in the attorney generals office. Among other alleged deceptive-trade violations, Wiseman said that DoorDash misrepresented to consumers how the company would use tips.
