Hurricane Laura forecast: northern Louisiana, Arkansas, Kentucky, Mid-Atlantic next in storm's path [View all]

After bombarding coastal areas of southern Louisiana with wind gusts up to 130 mph and a storm surge over nine feet, Hurricane Laura is sweeping northward through the state while also spreading over Arkansas. The storm will then dash through the Tennessee Valley and the Mid-Atlantic from Friday into Saturday.
Damaging winds and flash flooding are likely even as the hurricane weakens into a tropical storm by Thursday night and eventually to a depression on Friday.
As of 11 a.m. Eastern time, the storm was centered about 55 miles southeast of Shreveport, La., briskly headed north at 16 mph. It still contained maximum sustained winds of 75 mph. Alexandria International Airport had recently recorded a wind gust of 86 mph.
