Once Crist was in office, he changed nothing from what Bush had done. At the time, he was considered a Bush protege and the GOP had big plans for him. The semi-rational people in the GOP didn't count on the rabid right wing nut and Tea Party freak out when Crist shook hands with President Obama shortly after he got into office. After that, the nutjobs here in Florida hated Crist's guts and Crist was toast as a Republican.
So I saw Crist jumping off the GOP bandwagon to independence and then to the Democratic Party as a self serving ploy to keep his political boat afloat. Through all of that Crist never disavowed his previous relationship with Jeb Bush. That has worried me a lot.
Now that Jeb has dumped any possible backing of Crist, I am more comfortable with him. There is no way he can go back to the GOP at this point. I just hope he will be a decent governor when (major crossed fingers) he gets back in. He at least understands Florida better than Scott and while he may be a politician who will dance around to get into office, he seems to be reasonably honest once he's in.
