Tavares Mayor Robert Wolfe was arrested Friday night after getting into a fight with his wife and firing a gun she bought him for their first anniversary, the Lake County Sheriff's Office said.
Authorities had been investigating after Wolfe's wife, Sharon, reported this week that he had hit her and thrown an object at her while they were drinking at Buster Tubbs bar in Tavares, arrest records show.
Sharon Wolfe also told authorities her husband drunkenly fired a gunshot from a Beretta handgun, which got him for their anniversary, in the couple's bedroom April 24 and pushed her, the report stated.
Sharon Wolfe told officials she didn't want her husband to be arrested and only wanted the report filed on an informational basis, records show.
