Our driveway in flat city, Houston, was rather steep. I pulled in in our Ford Econoline van with a manual transmission. I stepped out of the door and the van began to roll backwards towards a car parked across the street. I reacted by pulling the emergency brake hard. The van stopped, yes it did, it stopped on top of my foot. The pain was enormous. What to do. I was on the horns of a dilemma. If I released the hand brake would I be able to hold the van back?

I braced my shoulder against the door jam and released the brake. I had no trouble keeping the van from rolling backwards because it wasn't rolling at all. I put one hand on the brake and pushed the van backward off my foot with my butt and then pulled the brake.

I don't know why no bones were broke but my foot hurt like Hell. Always put your shifter in reverse or 1st gear when parking, DUH!
