Before him, teachers were required to take classes, but they were subsidized by the state, and when you reached milestones - like getting a masters or doctorate, you got a salary bump. Now, the pay has been decreased, at least for substitute teachers, and the requirement to take classes is still there, but the state doesn't reimburse nor bump up your pay. In net, FL teachers have taken a huge pay decrease and that's why my daughter isn't teaching, even though she is teacher certified and has a double college major. FL is going to be facing a major crisis soon when they have insufficient public school teachers. Private christian schools will hire anyone to teach, no degree needed, maybe Charter Schools as well. Of course, these places pay next to nothing as well. Repugs are well on their way to destroying the educational system in this country. It's sickening.
