3. I grew up in Tampa

I lived there for more than 25 years. I never saw one outside the front door or in the yard. Of course, there was no canal or river close enough to my house to have one be a threat to us. I had friends who did, though. Rattlesnakes were a different story. They were everywhere, and I grew up looking at my feet when I would be walking outside and still do, and I still always carry a hoe too!
