My drivers license expired in 2020, and due to covid, cataracts and other health issues, I hadn’t renewed it. I will be required to take a written test, and then at a later date, a driving test in order to renew.

While making preparations to do so, the state sent me a voter ID card — totally unsolicited. It’s a piece of lightweight card stock, smaller than a credit card, with my name, address and a voter ID number. It has no photo, but it’s all I have to show to vote, or to put the voter ID number on an absentee application or ballot affidavit. Unlike the Idaho law, I didn’t have to swear to anything to get the card. Go figure.
