1. Oh boy... Those "forever confederate" women are a real case. This should be interesting.

Those who spent any time in the deep south growing up may remember their influence (or at least attempts to influence), sponsoring essay contests that were anything but voluntary for junior high school students. The "reward" for which, was attending a commemoration--usually in a church associated with a confederate cemetery.

I remember a funny episode of "Golden Girls" where Blanche was being lauded at a ceremony for those with long confederate ancestry. However, those researching her family to validate, become aware that she actually has Jewish ancestry among her family, which was a real "no-no" to the group, since presumedly that confirmed "YANKEE" ancestry. She rises above and calls out the hypocrisy and bigotry, but I have to say the message got through, even in a comedy. I loved that show.
