Blizzard warning over Michigan. How much snow near you? [View all]

A major winter storm, classified as a bomb cyclone, is currently sweeping into Michigan, and will bring heavy snow, high winds, and dangerous blizzard conditions to the Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula through Monday, Dec. 29.

Snowfall will vary widely across the state — some areas in the Upper Peninsula could see more than 2 feet, while southern and southeast communities may see less than 3 inches.

With blizzard warnings in effect and strong winds expected to increase through Monday, it’s a good time to check exact totals at your home to prepare your roof, sidewalks and driveway. Knowing your local snowfall can also help you plan short trips, decide whether children should walk to school, or determine the safest route for travel.

According to the NWS Probabilistic Precipitation Portal, snowfall totals through Wednesday morning could include 25 inches in Munising, 19 inches in Marquette, 13 inches in Sault Ste. Marie, and 12 inches in Traverse City and Gaylord, with lesser amounts expected farther south and east. .................(more)
