because there are going to be primary challenges.

1) Registration by party 2) June primary. Would avoid the problems you mention but won't happen because the endorsement zealots know it would kill that process. Party registration would take power away from the party and allow primary candiates to target 30% of the population rather than 100%.

I am not crazy about Clark but both Anderson and Nolan have had pathetic money raising so far.
