Most are desperately underfunded and in a case like this what they already had might be lost.

I donate books to my public library regularly and we didn't have a natural disaster. Think about a place that did have one-how much of their catalogue was lost? Just makes sense to find some more info about it.

And I know there's a whole lot of dislike for churches here on DU but another thought is to contact one in the area (one that you're comfortable with) and ask them what they think is still needed for the town. Many of them are still dealing directly with the peoples wants and needs and would have a good idea of who needs your donation.

And the feast sounds wonderful! What a great way to honor a life!
