I joke but, unfortunately, it's the truth. Despite their veneer of "values," the main moral guide for Republicans is selfishness, so their misbehavior is shrugged-off as "well, that's the way humans behave, even if it's regrettable." OTOH, Democrats are supposed to stand for ethical behavior rather than self-serving, so any steps off the straight-and-narrow will be punished without mercy. Do you think a Republican would have resigned under circumstances similar to Katie Hill's?
