Mayor Wants Fingerprint Access To NYCHA Buildings; Candidates Cry Foul [View all]

NY1News

Mayor Michael Bloomberg is raising a few eyebrows over a suggestion public housing residents should be fingerprinted as a security measure.

The mayor made the remarks during his weekly radio show.

"If you see strangers walking in the hallways of your apartment building - don't you want somebody to say 'Who are you, why are you here'? What we really should have is fingerprinting to get in. There are allegations that some of the people in these apartments are not the original one on the lease," Bloomberg said.

The comments have already drawn sharp criticism from some the candidates for mayor.
