every time I see this guy I admire him more. This time it was in a neighbors house with 30 or people showing up.

Bishop (NY1) is one of only a dozen or so Congressmen who actually is a fight for his life after the last redistricting. His last two elections were brutal, with a weeks-long recount last year that almost delayed seating the House. Maybe it did delay it for a bit-- memory isn't what it once was. (The mind is the second thing to go, I hear.) He doesn't know who his next opponent will be be but does know that whoever it is will have millions in PAC and other money at their disposal and it will be one hell of a fight with every lie and slur imaginable directed at him.

But, he was cool and while clearly concerned, just went about with some of the clearest explanations you'll ever hear about the current Congressional situation (which he sees as the worst it's been since he's been in Congress-- maybe since he's been a kid in school) and the hopes for any reasonable legislation we're looking for. (Not good) And where he he put all the the blame? Exactly where we all think it should go-- teabagging morons.

Saw him last week in a symposium about what is to be done with Plum Island if the idiotic plan to move an animal disease research facility to the middle of cattle and tornado country ever happens. It will likely be sold, but will be part of the Town of Southold. How to manage it is the question, and the town's plan is generally agreed to be a good one. leaving it mostly wild but keeping the new research lab to rent out to local universities and/or labs.

We kinda like our islands out here-- Gardiner's and Robins Islands are privately owned with restricted access, but cause no problems and pay a lot in taxes. Fisher's Island sorta the same way except it's more like a gated community. Shelter island is a quarter wildlife refuge and only the extreme cranks want to change that. Add Plum Island to the mix, along with the Gulls, and we would likely be very happy with the acquisition.
