...while advancing a more conservative agenda focused on lower taxes and reduced spending.

They are for 'focused' on any such a thing. They are focused on lining their own pockets at the expense of everyone else in the state.

They are making sure that their regime will always be in control. And, my fellow Tarheels seem willing to allow it.

When one party is always in control, that is not 'democracy'... that is 'dictatorship'.
