Candidate (D) responds after antisemitic posts surface [View all]
Community members have raised concern about resurfaced content shared on social media by Nicole Sigurdson, a candidate for Ohio House District 19.
On her personal Instagram account in January 2025, Sigurdson shared an image of a Palestinian flag that read, From the river to the sea Palestine will be free. She also shared a screenshot of a tweet by Heba Gowayed that read, The anniversary of genocide is another day of genocide. I cannot believe this has gone on for a year. I cannot believe its getting worse. And I cannot believe I walk through a world that funds, applauds, and accepts this continues as it continues.
The posts, which have since been taken down by Sigurdson, raised some chatter online by concerned constituents. In a statement to the Cleveland Jewish News on March 10, Sigurdson directly addressed the posts.
Recently, I received some attention for content I shared on my personal Instagram account over a year ago, intending to raise humanitarian concern for lives lost in Gaza and support for Palestinian people. At the time, I did not fully appreciate the context of the language used in the content shared. Many months ago, when others expressed hurt by the posts, I reflected, apologized to those alerting me to the messaging used and I removed the content, she said.
