3. Dispatch endorsed Sherrod Brown

Turns out the Dispatch did endorse national hero and Democrat John Glenn over GOP cannon fodder James Betts in the 1980 US Senate race. But Glenn's race aside, I don't believe the Dispatch had endorsed a Democrat for any federal office in the last fifty years. For sheer incompetence, Ken Blackwell's sleazy 2006 campaign for governor set a standard that will be hard to match, but if Ohio erects a Political Hall of Shame, Mandel at least deserves an Honorable Mention.
