conspicuously ignoring that the reason for the crayon confiscation was because the kid and/or their friends drew all over the fucking living room wall.

Use the stuff right or it gets taken away. Basic childhood lessons. If you don't like it you can apologize for your role in the malfeasance, or you can denounce your friends and report on their malfeasance, AT MINIMUM. Otherwise go stick it in your ear.
