Pa. church plans to bless assault rifles, associates them with return of Christ [View all]

A church in Wayne County in northeastern Pennsylvania has invited worshipers to bring assault weapons including AR-15-style rifles to a blessing ceremony, WNEP/ABC Newswatch 16 is reporting.

Area residents are uneasy about the fact that an elementary school is located near the church, and state police also have inquired about the ceremony set for next Wednesday morning, according to WNEP.

The church is run by the Moon family, and church leaders told WNEP they are expecting up to 600 people for the ceremony, with many likely armed with AR-15s.

WNEP said it interviewed a church leader who said, "This will be a big thing for us. It's a new stage for us because it incorporates the rod of iron, as it is in Revelations. Revelations talks about the returning Christ ruling with the rod of iron."

He said the AR-15 is the "rod of iron."

The blessing ceremony was scheduled before the mass shooting at a Florida high school last week.

According to WNEP, the Moon family also owns a nearby gunmaking company.
