1. No. It's still fracking and fracking is how they get to some forms of unconventional gas.

Nobody is served by confusing the terms.

Unconventional gas is not limited to the gas recovered by fracking.

Unconventional gas (and oil) includes methane hydrates, shale oil, tar sands, and the rest.

Conventional gas and oil was all that stuff that was so easy to extract.

Unconventional is what requires new (and dangerous) technologies like fracking to extract.

Unfortunately, the energy industry and our energy-hungry societies are banking on more and more unconventional fuels to become part of the energy mix, keeping us dependent upon fossil fuels and the companies that provide them.

It's like crack cocaine.
