bound to happen sooner or later. Hope they find the missing worker but they might never find them.

Static electricity can set that stuff off. Most metals that are allowed anywhere near even vapors are supposed to be cast aluminum or brass because they don't spark when they strike a hard object. The vehicle can't be made of those materials but any number of things could have set it off, even a radio... especially like a two-way.
