PA. Senate Repub Committee buys ads attacking teabagger in Senate primary -civil war in full display [View all]

Time to pass the popcorn and enjoy the show.

The PA. Republican Senate Campaign Committee has been buying nasty TV and radio ads attacking a Republican candidate for a State Senate seat. The ads attack Scott Wagner as the "million trashman" who has had suspected environmental violations at his businesses, and who is using his wealth to try to buy a senate seat.

The race is in York County, PA, in a reliably Republican district.

Scott Wagner is a very outspoken teabagger who owns Penn Waste, a large trash collection company. He used to own a large landfill. He regularly attacks prominent incumbent Republicans and threatened to run against Corbett this year in the primary.

This is part of a widespread civil war in the PA. Republican Party, as part of a national trend. Recently, the Republican PA. Speaker of the House bashed a conservative group that was criticizing Republican incumbents for being insufficiently conservative.

The following is a news story about the ads. I couldn't find the actual ad online.

Excerpts:

"Wagner was targeted by a TV ad sponsored by the Senate Republican Campaign Committee, whose permanent chairman is Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati, R-Jefferson. The attack ad starts with a narrator saying, "Millionaire Scott Wagner is spewing all kinds of garbage again, trying to buy another election" and ends, "With millionaire trash man Scott Wagner, something doesn't smell right....

Wagner responded with a TV ad that continued his theme of running against a political class that fattens itself on lavish perks and purportedly orchestrated Miller's candidacy and the special election in a bid to derail his chances of winning."

----
Wagner said after he gets elected to the Senate "I'm going to drive my pickup up to the Capitol with the back full of rat traps."

Excerpt:

"Republican Scott Wagner said he expects his campaign will spend more than $750,000 for the March 18 special election and May 20 primary.

Wagner is running a write-in campaign against Republican Ron Miller, a state representative, and Democrat Linda Small for the March 18 special election to replace Mike Waugh in the state Senate.

Miller's campaign committee, Wagner's committee and the Pennsylvania Senate Republican Campaign Committee, which is supporting Miller, have spent tens of thousands of dollars on TV advertising so far, according to data submitted to the Federal Communications Commission."

---
The PA. Republican Party has also been contributing directly to Miller's campaign. Can you imagine this happening in the Democratic Party - the Party funding one primary candidate and running ads attacking another primary candidate in their own party?

By the way, Corbett now has a conservative primary challenger. As one DUer said, we hate Corbett for being a dick. They hate Corbett for not being ENOUGH of a dick,
