17. I predicted a Rogers/Alameel runoff two weeks ago

in a conversation with two fellow Harris County EVBB ballot board members.

Alameel will spend enough money in the runoff to avoid being defeated -- he may even lead going into the runoff on the strength of his mailers and TV ads -- but Rogers has been on the ballot a few times, she has the highest name ID of all four candidates, and she is the only African American at the top of the statewide ballot (except for Steve Brown, who is actually downballot at the Railroad Commission position).

She's also a woman in the Year Of.

The TexTrib has had some notoriously bad polling in the past, but this race is the only one that raises my eyebrow on the D side.

The Republican numbers look believable.
