In reply to the discussion: Beating Kesha Rogers - Congressional District 22 [View all]Gothmog
(147,275 posts)44. Some additional numbers
This is an excerpt from an e-mail from Susan Bankston (aka Juanita Jean):
....we beat her in Fort Bend County. In Brazoria County, she won with 57% of the vote. In Harris County, she won with 62% of the vote. However, in Fort Bend County, she lost badly with only 44% of the vote.
KP never really worked with the other counties. The Fort Bend Democrats worked hard to keep this race close and we were somewhat successful here thanks to the efforts of Steve Brown and the other leaders in the party.
Kesha has no chance in the general election against Pete Olson. In 2010, Kesha got 36% of the Fort Bend County vote but did not break 30% for the entire district. We had several candidates in 2010 get 47% of the Fort Bend County vote in 2010 which means that Kesha under-performed Fort Bend County Democrats in 2010 by 10% or so. President Obama got 90%+ of the vote in Fort Bend County in the Democratic primary yesterday. There was a great deal of split part voting in 2010 and there will be more of this in 2012 due to Kesha.
I and others tried to recruit a stronger candidate for this race but the demographics are simply too bad for any Democrat to want to run against Pete Olson in the Texas 22nd Congressional District. Again, McCain won this district in 2008 with 60% of the vote. Kesha won yesterday due to low information voters in other counties who did not know who they were voting for. KP's defeat is not any sort of referendum on President Obama and is more of a referendum on what a weak candidate KP George was in this race and the mistake he made in not campaigning in the entire district.
The Fort Bend Democrats have recruited a good slate of candidates for the upcoming general election and we will not let Kesha slow us down,

No Democrat would have a chance, so this really isn't that big of a deal
