Memorial service set for beloved neighborhood cat named Cash [View all]

AUSTIN -- Rest in peace, Kitty in Black.
Friends of a gregarious cat named Cash will honor the recently departed feline with a memorial service Friday at a neighborhood store and coffee shop he frequented.
Cash was born at a small East Austin commune populated by tepees and an old school bus, but bonded with then-neighbors Keith Sharp and Eve Richter, who fed and kept an eye on him. Their roommate changed the cats name from Death Metal to Cash after watching him strut up the sidewalk as the sun set.
Cash was neutered and chipped, but roamed the Cherrywood area near Manor Road as a neighborhood pet, sneaking into doors left ajar. He loved to follow people on walks, break into homes, sleep in dog beds and drink from faucets and water glasses.
A window would be cracked, and there hed be on the dogs bed. Hed just show up like a smoke monster, ninja-like, Sharp said. He was a rogue, a true gypsy. He ingratiated himself with all these neighbors.
