Abbott loosens alcohol sale rules to aid struggling hospitality industry [View all]

Texas restaurants will be allowed to deliver alcoholic beverages along with food purchases as part of the state’s actions to help the hospitality industry during the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Greg Abbott announced Wednesday night.

Abbott issued waivers that also directed the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to allow manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers of alcoholic beverages to buy or sell back unopened product.

“The State of Texas is committed to supporting retailers, restaurants, and their employees,” Abbott said in a statement. “These waivers will allow restaurants to provide enhanced delivery options to consumers during this temporary period of social distancing.”
