the pasty goo off your windshield with an ice scraper. Keep a bottle of ammonia spray cleaner or Windex in your car during "the season".

I was on an interstate trip when this happened to me way out in the boonies. Not fun. Fortunately, I wasn't *too* far from a rest stop with water and abundant paper towels.
