Working Washington supporters took up the spirit of the season last week in Bellevue, but we weren't shopping for gifts — we came to pay a visit to multimillionaire Bellevue real estate developer Kemper Freeman, the Grinch Who Stole Congress.

Click here to watch our video and see what happened when we tried to grow Grinch Freeman's heart a few sizes bigger by occupying his office and singing grinch-themed carols.

The owner of Bellevue Square Mall, Kemper Freeman earned the title of the Grinch Who Stole Congress by contributing almost $2 million to politicians who support deep grinchy cuts to education, healthcare, and unemployment benefits — people like Speaker of the House John Boehner, Congressman Dave Reichert, and initiative peddler Tim Eyman.

While Kemper Freeman and his fellow Grinches of the 1% are prospering so much they apparently have millions to spend on political contributions, many in Bellevue and other communities are struggling to find jobs and are feeling the bite of budget cuts at their schools and healthcare facilities. And yet the politicians still seem to be catering to their grinchy 1% funders instead of investing in our communities to create jobs.

That’s why we went to Bellevue Square last week: to see if we could grow this local grinch’s heart a few sizes bigger and take our politics back.
