(51,907 posts)13. Monthly anti-coal activists meeting in Bellinghame 2/12
http://www.facebook.com/events/122260134614280/
I hope you'll join us for the first monthly coal activists meeting since the end of the public comment period, on Tuesday, February 12 at 6:30 pm, 2309 Meridian Street, at RE Sources' Sustainable Living Center (above The RE Store).
It doesn't matter if this is your first activist meeting or if you've been closely involved in the past two years -- everyone is welcome to join and participate. It's a great place to learn more and get plugged in to some of the opportunities to volunteer.
The expected agenda for this month's meeting will include updates on the following:
VOTER EDUCATION AND CIVIC ENGAGEMENT:
More volunteer opportunities to grow the movement
Framing the conversation for elected officials
Building more support in Whatcom County ahead of important elections
Finding and empowering more supporters on campuses, in Whatcom County and among union members
REGIONAL PARTNERSHIPS:
Otter Creek Mine, Tongue River Railroad and Longview coal export public comment opportunities
State legislative agenda and environmental lobby day
Efforts to encourage our new governor, Jay Inslee, to join us
Updates on the area-wide EIS
OTHER UPDATES AND CALLS TO ACTION:
Community rights ballot measures in Bellingham and Whatcom County
Continuing developments on Idle No More indigenous rights movement and local leadership from the Lummi Nation
Updates and opportunities on Canadian opposition to coal exports
Updates on the area-wide EIS
There will also be an opportunity for announcements, questions, best practices and needs for other coal projects that you're working on (please try to keep it brief, though we would like to make sure everyone is up to date!)
Coffee, tea, and light refreshments will be served at the meeting. If you're interested in helping with set-up for the meeting, you can give me a call at 360-303-1660 or email mattp@re-sources.org. We would love the help.
Thanks again,
