Please join us for a special evening celebrating the beauty and power of that amazing journey through art, pictures and words. Hear from Lummi leaders on the recent demand that the federal government deny a permit for the Cherry Point coal export terminal, which would violate treaty rights.

Where: Impact Hub Seattle, 220 2nd Avenue South, Seattle
Who: Special guest speakers:
Jay Julius, Lummi Indian Business Council
Dow Constantine, King County Executive
Jewell James, Head Carver, Lummi House of Tears Carvers
What: Premiere of the Totem Pole Journey video by Fred Lane; photo story of the journey by photographer James Leder; showcase of the 14x21 foot mural that was painted at stops along the journey; speakers from the Lummi Nation.
Plus a unique silent auction with Native American artworks dedicated to the theme Visions of XwechieXen (Cherry Point). Please bring your checkbook!
The proposed Cherry Point coal terminal would be built on a 3,500-year-old Lummi village site known as XwechieXen. Coal exports break the social compact between the government of the United States and its people to secure the general welfare of its residents. It also threatens a long-established way of life, and a rich and varied ecological, social and cultural landscape. It would dishonor thousands of years of tribal history. The struggle to stop coal export through this area is not only a matter of environmental justice, but of social justice and civil rights.
