(51,907 posts)There has been a surge in hate crimes against the LGBTQ community on Capitol Hill and in Seattle in general. Harassment and verbal and physical intimidation is on the rise, as well. We need to have a serious and genuine conversation about this problem, and we need to find solutions.
Our Capitol Hill community has long been a bastion of the LGBTQ struggle. Join me at a community forum on Tuesday, March 3rd at 7:00PM at the All Pilgrims Christian Church to help carry on that struggle. Well hear testimony from various LGBTQ activists, together with human service providers and social justice advocates.
Danni Askini, Executive Director of the Gender Justice League, will moderate an amazing list of speakers that includes:
Zach Pullin Capitol Hill Community Council, Acting President
Lils Fujikawa API Chaya, Queer Network Program Coordinator
Raven E. Heavy Runner Northwest Two-Spirit Society, MSW, Acting Co-Chair
Christie Santos-Livengood Entre Hermanos, former Womens Program Manager
Shaun Knittel Social Outreach Seattle, President & Founder; Seattle Gay News Associate Editor
Marta Idowu Seattle Office for Civil Rights, Seattle LGBT Commission Liaison
I will be present to listen to the speakers and community, and to add LGBTQ-relevant perspectives on housing, human services, transit, and overall affordability and livability on Capitol Hill and in our city.
Lets begin a conversation to find bold and lasting solutions to address this crisis. Join the struggle!
Sincerely,
Kshama
