59. Anti-Reichert anti-TPA demonstration in Seattle 5/28

Rep. Dave Reichart supports the TPP Fast Track legislation and the Trans Pacific Partnership free trade agreement. He is proposing a "compromise" that attaches partial funding of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Program (TAA), a program that is supposed to assist workers who lose their jobs because of trade agreements, to the Fast Track legislation. He hopes his "compromise" will help passage of Fast Track in the House. Rep Reichart's proposal takes $700 million dollars from the Medicare Trust Fund to help pay for TAA.

PSARA members have an opportunity to let Rep. Reichart know what we think. Rep. Reichart is speaking on Thursday, May 28 at the World Affairs Council at the Seattle World Trade Center, 2200 Alaskan Way, Seattle 98121, about why he supports the TPP, and Fast Track.


The Washington Fair Trade Coalition is joining with Medicare Advocates for a demonstration beginning at 11 a.m. and ending by noon on the sidewalk outside where Rep. Reichart is speaking. PSARA will indicate our opposition to the Fast Track legislation and express our outrage at the proposal to steal $$s from the Medicare Trust Fund in order to fund TAA and help get Fast Track through the House. Rep. Reichart needs to hear that we are outraged that he is proposing to use the Medicare Trust Fund as a piggy bank to push through Fast Track.
