(51,907 posts)With Obama visiting Alaska on Monday things are really picking up steam on the ShellNo Campaign again. To respond we've restructured SNAC to operate with working groups instead of affinity groups so that more concrete action can be planned. The group is also planning a March Against Hypocrisy on Monday to coincide with President Obama's visit to the Arctic.
Updates around Shell:
- Having been given the final permit from President Obama, Shell is now digging for oil in the Arctic (boo.)
- Speaking of the devil, President Obama, will be visiting Alaska to talk about Climate Change at the GLACIER conference. (More on what we're doing about that later).
Solidarity Action on August 31st: March Against Hypocrisy
On Monday our allies and friends in Alaska will greet President Obama and demand that he stop Arctic Drilling. In Seattle we will March in solidarity with them and Against Hypocrisy!
Assemble at 11:30 am at Occidental Park
Funeral procession at noon from Occidental Park with a loud marching band, art and props calling out the hypocrisy of Obama.
Solemn die-in at the Federal building, with speakers.

Structure of SNAC going forward: At the meeting two weeks ago, we brought up the idea of moving away from working through affinity groups and introducing Working Groups as a way to restructure SNAC.
These working groups will be fluid and can change based on time-sensitive requirements. Some working groups will be: Tactics/Direct Action, Outreach, Education, Legal, Media, Website and Digital Resources, Finance, Fundraising.
The working groups will meet outside of the regular large meeting and will report back to the general meeting. More to be discussed around these at the next SNAC meeting!
