PSARA members are invited to celebrate Labor Day at the annual picnic sponsored by the Martin Luther King County Labor Council, AFL/CIO on Monday, Sept. 7, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. at Lower Woodland Park Shelters 1, 2 & 3. The entry to the picnic area is at 50th & Woodland Park Ave. N., west of Greenlake Ave. N. & east of Greenwood Ave. N.
PSARA traditionally provides cookies for the picnic so please bring either your favorite home-baked cookies or store bought cookies if you prefer. Bring lawn chairs as the picnic is a wonderful time to sit around and schmooze. There are more details in your Sept. Advocate.

PSARA is co-sponsoring, along with Casa Latina and Washington Community Action Network, a celebration of Grandparents Day on Wednesday, Sept. 9, at Casa Latina, 317 17th Ave. S., Seattle. There will be excellent Mexican food, music and discussion of the importance of addressing the need for quality and affordable long term care while also assuring that providers of care are paid a living wage.
PSARA supports adding a long term care benefit to Medicare along with supporting efforts to create a state-based long term care funding program. Nationally, advocates are viewing Grandparents Day as a time to honor the role of grandparents and an opportunity to advocate for solutions to the growing crisis in accessing quality, affordable long term care.
The PSARA Diversity Committee is sponsoring a tour and discussion at El Centro de la Raza, 2524 16th Ave. S., Seattle on Thursday, Sept. 10, beginning at 10 a.m. There are big changes taking place at El Centro. Learn more from their staff members who will take us on a guided tour.
The history of the Centro is rich and a wonderful example of what can be accomplished with bold community action. Please rsvp to the PSARA office (206) 448-9646 or email diversitycommittee@psara.org
