(51,907 posts)81. Housing hearing in Seattle 9/9
The Seattle City Council will be holding a special evening public meeting to hear directly from YOU, the community, on inclusionary housing and the HALA recommendations. We need BIG turnout, and we're counting on you to make your voice heard.
Over the past many months and years, you have told our elected leaders that mandatory, inclusionary housing is a proven tool to create thousands of affordable homes across the income spectrum. This mroning, Mayor Murray and Councilmember Mike O'Brien stood together to announce legislation on a commercial linkage fee and residential inclusionary housing program. The City Council is expecting to hear from all of you as it considers this legislaion, beginning with a public hearing on the residential inclusionary housing resolution on Sept 9th.
On the 9th, the Council will also consider a resolution to implement the HALA workplan, and we need our leaders to hear loud and clear that the community stands behind swift, strong action on affordable housing. The HALA plan includes a number of exciting policies, including renewing and expanding the Seattle Housing Levy, seeking state authorization for a local Real Estate Excise Tax and Housing Preservation program, and adopting stronger tenant protections to help people access and remain in stable housing.
Please stand with us in supporting these critical programs to help preserve and create 20,000 affordable homes in the next 10 years! To help us stay organized, please email us your RSVP to let us know you'll be attending. kayla@housingconsortium.org
