Bertha Knight Landes, Seattle City Hall
Sisters and Brothers,
The 2016 Seattle city budget proposal is woefully inadequate. It wont make a dent in the affordable housing crisis, it falls tens of millions of dollars short in social service funding, and it fails to meet our city's daily needs. We need to fight for a Peoples Budget!
Building on last years success, the Peoples Budget Town Hall will once again open up the doors of City Hall to ordinary people. I will moderate short panels on: Affordable Housing; Human Services & Public Safety; Progressive Taxation & Public Infrastructure; Education, Youth Jobs, Racial Justice; and Supporting Small Business.
Our goal is to get the working people of Seattle who are excited about social justice in the same room as some of our citys best advocates and organizers. Lets discuss how a Peoples Budget would address the chronic underfunding of our needs.
Help to make the Peoples Budget Town Hall a success. Here are two ways you can lend a hand. We hugely appreciate anything you are able to do.
Come - Mark Tuesday, October 27 on your calendar and come to the Peoples Budget Town Hall. We need to pack City Hall!
Mobilize - Help us promote the event. Please forward this email to everyone you know who may be interested. Visit the Facebook Event, share it and invite all your friends. Please tweet about it, too.
Lets do it! Together we can lay the foundation for a budget that fully funds all of our city's basic human needs. We can make this city a livable place for all, rather than a playground for the rich.
Solidarity,
Kshama Sawant
