Session 1:
HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT: DISPLACEMENT & RESISTANCE IN RURAL & URBAN COMMUNITIES
10AM - 1PM
Homeowners stand up to bank foreclosures & corporate landlords like Blackstone. Tenants face rising rents & no-cause evictions across the region. Rural communities experience displacement from the loss of public services and lack of infrastructure. How can we build the movement for housing justice? What are the points of connection between rural and urban communities?
Learn from Social Justice Fund NW grantees working for housing justice: Standing Against Foreclosure & Eviction, Community Alliance of Tenants, and Rural Organizing Project. Get grounded in the issues, ask your questions, and meet others in the social justice community.
All funds will support their urgent work of Economic Justice in the Northwest via Social Justice Fund
NW.
You can RSVP separately to Session 2:
THE ANATOMY OF A VICTORY ENDING YOUTH DETENTION IN SEATTLE/KING COUNTY
2PM - 5 PM
On September 21, 2015 the Seattle City Council passed an historic resolution with a goal to end youth incarceration and directed the City to adopt policies eliminating the necessity for youth imprisonment. How did this happen? What does it mean for Seattles youth? Join us for a discussion with community leaders from Ending the Prison Industrial Complex (EPIC) as they guide us through their process of creating an historic win to end the School-to-Prison pipeline for youth in Seattle/King County.
All funds will support their urgent work of Criminal Justice and Black-Led organizing in the Northwest via Social Justice Fund NW.
Directions:
The New Tomorrow art space is located on 10th Ave. just off of Pike St. in Capitol Hill. Please enter through the door located next to Sweatbox Yoga studio. Walk down the long hallway all the way to the end.
