From the Journal-Sentinel:

The state Senate rejected mining legislation Tuesday designed to ease the regulatory path for a large open pit mine in northern Wisconsin.

The vote was another setback for the effort to streamline mining regulations, but legislative leaders still cling to hope they can approve a bill before the legislative session ends next week.

The measure senators rejected 17-16 was a version that the Legislature's Joint Finance Committee had approved Monday. Majority Republicans hope to send the matter to a legislative committee later Tuesday so they can bring it up another day.
