while I understand it, I find it far from agreeable or proper.

Both programs attempt to restore, even if temporarily, one's normal life. They replace what has been lost, like insurance. If you are disabled, but lose a job you managed to find, you should not be penalized for finding that job.

In our system, only the wealthy or powerful are allowed to gain from misfortune.
