he WAS unbeatable as gov
great name rocognition
seen as middle of the road by independents and the unaware
a non radical safe choice

yes he has baggage but he has always had baggage
too much teflon, way too much teflon
media loves him
was gov "when times were good"
was long thought to have someone on the side but the media NEvER showed any interest.
