It usually gets a free pass.

There are people with multiple homes in different states who tax a resident tax credit for a home in one state and vote in another.

This kept John Raese from winning when it was revealed that while he was running for Senate, his wife claimed residence in Florida. She ran a Republican women's political group and I have no doubt that she voted here in WV but nobody bothered to check.
