Tim Hortons customers pay it forward — for three hours [View all]

One customer started the chain at the Tim Hortons at Beaverhill Boulevard last Friday when they paid for the order of the customer behind them in the drive-thru, reported CBC News. That small act of Christmas cheer set off a chain of 228 customers who kept picking up the tab for the next customer, lasting a total of about three hours.
Manager Troy Thompson said the energy was infectious among staff and customers.
They were calling out the numbers Were at 162 and they made a really big deal of it, he told CBC. I think thats what helped keep it going because nobody wanted to be the one who broke that streak.
The streak finally ended when one man chose not to pay for the three coffees ordered by the next person. His four coffees had been paid for by the customer ahead of him.
