in the party know this is a losing road to travel down.

My family - hard core conservatives and Harper supporters, will be freaking out about this. They HATE the religious right component to the party and will bail instantly if it looks like that part is taking over. I have a sneaking suspicion that most of the other con supporters around here are the same. I'm sure many will put a stop to this. Otherwise, they will lose (and Alberta will move leftward yet again).
