23. When I lived there, it was very suppressed

Catalan was forbidden in schools, TV, (mostly) radio, and daily newspapers--by LAW, imposed by the Falange from Madrid. One hour per week was allowed on TV and a few on the radio. Weekly magazines were also allowed, and universities were allowed to teach it as a FOREIGN (!!!) language. THAT is suppression. It was a very different world under Franco's fascists. And STILL the language and culture survived. I still go down there often, and I see no suppression of any language. Nothing is forbidden. Now it's more like Switzerland, where the traditional local language is always used, but none of the others are in any way illegal.
