Probably the same reasons as the Americans, since oligarchs love money more than anything else. The conspiratorial side of my brain thinks this is one more step in the rise of the Putin lead global oligarchy and the death of liberal democracy as we know it. The rational side says they're not that smart or organized. Rich people scrounging around to get richer just looks like a conspiracy. But the end result may be the same. An accidental global oligarchy with a thin democratic facade.
